This piece is formed from memory. The density and texture of this sculpture reference items that belonged to my father.
My father was terminally ill and was told that he would go to hell when he passed away if he remained a Buddhist. So my father was converted to Christianity before his funeral. The Baptist pastor came to our house after my father’s funeral and took my father’s mala beads. He said he would dispose of them and many of my father’s belongings were purged. This piece is an attempt and recreating and reclaiming my father’s belongings and embrace his heritage.
